Ruby on Rails - Amols

Technology: Ruby on Rails
Project Type: Ecommerce
Url: http://amols.com

This web site was for a party supply store in San Antonio. The company's previous web solution used a third party ecommerce service, Peach Tree, and had around 500 products available online. As the entire catalog on the previous site was hosted externally on the Peach Tree servers, search engine indexing was minimal and visitor tracking and behavior analysis was non-existent.

Since the new site was launching with over 4,500 products in over 140 product categories, a more intelligent solution was needed.

The ecommerce solution for the new Amols web site includes syncing with the in-store point of sale system (POS) using Web Services for inventory and order synchronization, rule-based related product matching, cross-selling products, a custom content management solution with related products, dynamic navigation system customizable based on the time of year and related events, and a pseudo guided navigation system for browsing multiple categories and types at once to narrow results.

The site also includes a full-featured administration tool for all content management and product control beyond the POS synchronization. The admin allows control of pricing for shipping methods, price breaks, and over-sized items. Order lookup and status management control as well as order reporting is done through the admin tool as well.

In addition to basic page view reporting, Google Analytics ecommerce package was used for tracking of all the orders on the site as well as tracking the effectiveness of related products, cross-selling and content pages towards actual purchases.
